Job summary

State of Maine seeks a supervisory professional to direct maintenance and operation programs for a large state institution's physical plant. You will oversee building systems, grounds, and vehicle operations while managing a sizable trades workforce.

Ideal candidates have five years of plant experience, with preference for a Boilers Engineer's License and prior managerial background. Monday–Friday, with a 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. schedule and state benefits.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years' experience in managing the maintenance and repair of a physical plant including building and mechanical trades or operation of high‑pressure steam heating plants.
• Preference given to candidates with Boilers Engineer's License and/or prior managerial experience.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise a large workforce of trades and plant operation personnel.
• Coordinate building, grounds, mechanical systems and motor vehicle operations and maintenance.
• Respond to after-hours emergency calls and report to DDPC during emergencies.
• Ensure compliance with policies and standards (JCAHO, DHS, Medicare/Medicaid).
• Plan and schedule minor works, maintenance, repairs, and alterations.

This is inclusive of a 10% Recruitment and Retention stipend and a .60¢/hr. institutional stipend. Currently, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions.

Job Overview

This is work of a supervisory nature in directing physical plant operation and maintenance programs of considerable variety at a large state institution. Responsibilities include coordinating building, grounds, mechanical systems and motor vehicle operations and maintenance programs and managing a large workforce of trades and plant operation personnel.

Core Responsibilities

• Ensures that employees are following necessary policies and procedures in order to ensure operations conform to applicable standards such as those established by JCAHO, DHS, Medicare and Medicaid.
• Respond to after-hours' emergency calls as needed.
• Maintain availability to report to DDPC during emergency situations.
• Directs and oversees grounds maintenance including snow removal and transport operations in order to provide a safe environment and meet institutional transportation requirements.
• Directs, monitors, and inspects operation and maintenance of heating, water treatment, life safety systems, door access systems, and sewerage disposal plants in order to ensure adherence to operation, maintenance, and repair standards.
• Prepares plans and specifications for minor work and schedules maintenance, repairs, and alteration projects in order to meet institutional needs and maintain physical plant.
• Coordinates with all hospital departments to ensure the surveillance system is meeting the needs of the hospital.

Minimum Qualifications

• Five (5) years' experience in managing the maintenance and repair of a physical plant to include experience in the building and mechanical trades and/or the operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam heating plants.
• Preference will be given to a candidate with a Boilers Engineer's License and/or those candidates with prior managerial experience.
