Qualifications

Job description

Our client employer in Waterloo Region is looking for a Plant Maintenance Engineer to join their team in a full-time permanent role!

As the Plant Engineer, you are a strong leader who will lead the maintenance team of five, ensure that the work environment is safe for all, and that the preventive maintenance program is upheld!

The qualified candidate will receive a solid compensation package including a competitive salary between 105-115K, benefits package, RSP matching, EAP program, flexible work hours, and encouragement of continuous learning!

Required Skills:

  • Engineering Degree, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in a manufacturing environment in maintenance, process, plant engineering, or manufacturing functions.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of managerial / supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience supervising unionized teammates; working in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated project/management skills coupled with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and oversee contractors or technical staff.
  • Excellent technical knowledge including applicable engineering principles, codes, safety, environmental requirements, and related legislation.
  • Understanding of IATF16949 and ISO 14001 requirements and work procedures.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Good computer skills (spreadsheets, CAD, etc.)

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, budget, approve, schedule, and coordinate capital projects, installations, plant shutdowns, startups, and general maintenance.
  • Understand Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and develop/corrective actions to meet or exceed targets.
  • Drive and participate in lean manufacturing principles such as 5S, kaizens, value stream mapping, etc.
  • Supervise all hourly (unionized) teammates, including coaching, training, discipline, and scheduling.
  • Ensure a safe work environment, participate in H&S programs, and provide training on safe operations, PPE, and good housekeeping.
  • Implement and maintain HS&E requirements, policies, and goals/objectives.
  • Manage departmental budget, including preparation and cost control.
  • Maintain inventories of spare parts, equipment documentation, and maintenance supplies.
  • Purchase parts required for modifications and repairs.
  • Implement and maintain the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program in coordination with scheduling and management.
