Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a Plant Health Care Technician to join our outdoor-focused team. Your office is outdoors, with daily field visits fertilizing and pest management for trees, shrubs and lawns, using spray and injection tools.

You’ll diagnose health issues, educate clients on treatments, and operate trucks and sprayers, while contributing to a safety-driven, employee-owned culture that values ongoing training and career advancement.

Qualifications

• Outdoor field-based role requiring physical activity.
• Davey-specific training during onboarding and safety courses.
• Valid driver’s license required; pesticide licenses may be required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Performs fertilization and pest management on trees, shrubs and lawns using spray and injection tools.
• Identify and diagnose insects, weeds, fungi, and pest-prone areas.
• Educate clients regarding diagnosis and prescribed pest control and fertilization services.
• Monitor plant health and fertilizing methods, reporting progress to customers and supervisors.
• Drive, use, maintain and operate equipment (truck and sprayer).

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

Performs fertilization and pest management on trees, shrubs and lawns using spray and injection toolsby performing the following duties

Cultivate your career and fertilize your future!

Properlyidentify and diagnoseinsects, weeds,fungus conditionsandpestproneareas.

Communicate with and educate the client regardingthediagnosis and the prescribedpest controlandfertilization servicewith customers.

Continuously monitorplant heathquality and fertilizing methods after application and communicate progress to customers andsupervisors.

Drive, use, maintain and properly operate equipment (truck and sprayer).

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

Love of the outdoors

Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping

Preferred: Turf, Weed, Tree and shrub ID, Pathology and knowledge of turf or tree physiology

Ability to complete the Davey Tree Qualified Plant Health Care Tech training program upon hire

Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire

Valid driver’s license required

Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
