Job summary

The Kreiner Lab and Carley Lab at the University of Chicago seek to hire a shared Laboratory Technician – Research to start in fall 2026. This is a full-time, in-person position split 50/50 between two research groups, in a collaborative environment focused on plant biology and genomics.

The role involves routine lab work including DNA extractions, sequencing library prep, PCR assays, tissue culture, and data management, with emphasis on safety and compliance. On-site at the Hyde Park campus.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a college or university degree in related field.
• Experience with DNA extraction protocols and high-molecular-weight adaptations.

Responsibilities

• Perform DNA extractions from plant tissue using CTAB-based methods.
• Execute library preparation workflows for short-read and long-read sequencing platforms.
• Design and troubleshoot PCR-based assays and genotyping protocols.
• Maintain lab inventory and procure reagents and equipment.
• Coordinate usage of shared lab equipment and ensure safety compliance.
