Job summary

The University of Chicago invites applications for a Laboratory Technician – Research in the Kreiner and Carley labs, two integrated plant biology groups in the Ecology & Evolution department. The position is full-time, onsite, and split 50/50 between labs.

Ideal candidates will have a degree in a related field and hands-on experience with DNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing workflows, with strong organizational and collaborative skills for a two-lab environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a college or university degree in a related field.
• Experience with DNA extraction, PCR-based assays, and sequencing workflows.
• Strong organizational skills; ability to coordinate between two labs and field sites.

Responsibilities

• Perform DNA extractions from plant tissue using CTAB-based or kit methods.
• Execute sequencing library prep for short- and long-read platforms.
• Design, optimize, and troubleshoot PCR-based assays.
• Assist with data management and lab recordkeeping.
• Coordinate shared equipment use and maintain inventory.
