Job summary

The University of Maine's School of Biology and Ecology seeks a Research Assistant to support plant genetics research in the Tan lab. Responsibilities include laboratory- and field-based experiments, data organization, presentations for scientific and lay audiences, and assisting in preparing scientific publications.

The position involves collaboration with a Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Associate and faculty supervisor on NSF-DBT synthetic biology projects and other grant-funded activities.

Qualifications

  • Typically has the education associated with a bachelor’s degree in biology, plant sciences, biological sciences, botany, or related field.
  • At least one year of molecular biology, plant care, and greenhouse experience or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams with students, research associates and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory- and field-based scientific research following established protocols.
  • Organize and manage data and prepare scientific publications.
  • Give presentations for scientific and lay audiences.
  • Coordinate with a Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Associate and faculty supervisors.
