Location Description

Wakefield is one of the largest production facilities within Michael Foods. We serve as a flex plant and are able to produce everything from a whole pasteurized egg to liquid, dried, hardboiled, and curds.


Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Plant Controller, the Financial Accounting Manager is responsible for various accounting and reporting functions including month-end close, oversight of accounts payable, SOX compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. This role is a key part of the plant leadership team, helping drive results while maintaining financial integrity.

The main office can be either Wakefield or Norfolk, with an approximately weekly drive to the other location. The plant locations are about 42 miles apart or a 45-minute drive.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP by verifying transactions, preparing journal entries, and reconciling accounts.
  • Prepare variance analyses to inform planning and forecasting, communicating opportunities or risks.
  • Support asset management, including capital budget preparation, CPR, asset placement, and fixed asset review.
  • Supervise accounts payable to ensure processing aligns with company policies, ensuring GL code integrity, sales tax compliance, and proper authorization.
  • Ensure cross-training and proper documentation of team roles; conduct performance reviews.
  • Collaborate with plant operations to prepare expense and labor budgets.
  • Assist in designing and implementing internal reports as required by the Plant Controller.
  • Prepare reporting for departmental budgets and update forecasts accordingly.
  • Adhere to safety practices, GMP, HACCP guidelines, and maintain product quality, reporting any adverse conditions.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX requirements.

Qualifications

Skills to be successful:

  • Experience managing financial close processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proven supervisory capabilities.
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Experience with SAP, SQL, Power Query, Tableau, Power BI, and data cubes preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 4-7 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing is a plus.
  • CMA or CPA certification is a plus.
