Job summary

PTC is seeking a Plant Engineer in Liberty, TX to provide engineering support across manufacturing processes. You will diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, identify root causes, and drive long- and short-term improvements. You will lead projects, develop asset documentation, and collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality to raise plant performance.

The role emphasizes Safety First, Operational Excellence, and continuous learning. Overnight travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Safely diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and mobilize resources as needed.
  • Identify root causes of process or equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Utilize AutoCAD (Electrical/Mechanical) or Inventor to create and share designs.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance and Quality to learn and measure processes.
  • Produce asset documentation: BOMs, manuals, drawings, and specs.
  • Lead small to medium projects with attention to scope, budget and schedule.
  • Develop and review Engineering Standards used across the organization.
  • Travel up to 10% to other sites for best-practice sharing.

Job Summary

As a member of the Engineering Department, the Plant Engineer provides engineering support and guidance to ensure safe, reliable, cost effective and timely production. They will be curious and inquisitive to become experts in the various manufacturing processes and equipment across their plant(s). While solving problems, they will identify new key information and conclusions, and ensure those findings are recorded in a meaningful way that expands the organization's library of technical information. When problems interrupt production, they will identify and drive the implementation of short- and long-term solutions that address the root cause of the problem. They will identify improvement opportunities and support the development of project justifications and scopes. Plant Engineers may lead projects as required to improve plant performance. They will be leaders in the office and on the manufacturing floor to model our core values of Safety First, Customer Intimacy (for internal and external customers), Operational Excellence, Learning Organization, Respect for Others, and Profit-Motivated.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safely, quickly and logically solve mechanical and/or electrical problems, or if unable, identify and mobilize internal or external resources to do so.
  • Identify the root cause(s) of poor process quality/equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Utilize engineering software, such as AutoDesk AutoCAD (Electrical or Mechanical) or AutoDesk Inventor, to create, store and communicate engineering concepts, designs, and analyses.
  • Work alongside Operations, Maintenance and Quality to learn their standard means of operating, maintaining, and measuring process/product quality data for each machine (asset) and associated operation(s). Develop and review Engineering Process Definitions and Asset Detail Files to store this information in a way that can be compared across the organization and standardized.
  • Produce and maintain asset documentation, including specification sheets, manuals, bill of materials (BOMs), and drawings (layout, assembly, detail, P&ID, electrical) through the asset lifecycle.
  • Scope and execute trials to characterize manufacturing process variables and cost.
  • Work with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality to identify process/equipment improvements and the projects that would be required to achieve them.
  • Work with Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) to develop financial justifications associated with ongoing projects at the plant(s).
  • Develop and review Engineering Specifications used to communicate the engineered solution requirements to vendors during the scoping of projects.
  • Lead small to medium sized projects from the proposal stage through executive approval, execution and closing stages with an emphasis on detailed documentation, on-time delivery and total spend within the approved budget.
  • Develop and review Corporate Engineering Standards, which warehouse the standard engineering design, operating, troubleshooting, and decision-making practices across the organization.
  • Follow and enforce the PTC Safety Program – lead by example and be a role model for others.
  • Focus on the right busy – there will always be work to be done, and the high priority work is not always the easy work.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time as needed to other sites for best practice sharing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited program is required
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience in an industrial environment.

  • Other Skills and Abilities: To perform this job successfully, a computer literate and able to learn and use programs such as AutoDesk AutoCAD, AutoDesk Inventor, AutoDesk Vault, Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, OneNote), SmartSheet, Oracle, and other Company-developed applications. Ability to manipulate and transform data using Power Query, Power BI, Python, R, or other data analysis platform is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Must possess a valid driver’s license for business travel, such as, intercompany plant trips, trainings, conferences, supplier site visits, customer site visits, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
