Job summary

PPG is seeking a Plant Controller for the Huntsville, AL facility to join the Operations Finance Team. You will partner with plant leadership to drive cost controls, productivity, and accurate financial reporting, with on-site work and a hybrid schedule including annual travel to Pittsburgh.

Job description

As our Plant Controller , you will be part of the Operations Finance Team, supporting Aerospace Transparencies operations as a member of the Huntsville plant leadership team. You will contribute to and lead performance improvement plans within the facility. Using detailed and insightful analytics, you will identify opportunities to enhance productivity and reduce costs. You will collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment, engagement, and progress toward clearly defined project goals and deliverables.

You will report to the Aerospace Operations Finance Manager based at the company headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We ask that you work onsite at our plant in Huntsville, AL, according to our hybrid schedule with annual travel to our Pittsburgh headquarters. Additionally, you will have direct supervisory responsibility for one team member, Operations Finance Analyst, Huntsville, who is based at the Pittsburgh headquarters.

Main Responsibilities:

• Participate in plant meetings to provide insight on results, collect information and challenge performance
• Lead plant projects to control costs of production
• Focus on and improving productivity through analytics and cross functional projects including scrap, productivity, capacity use and addressing bottle necks
• Push relevant information and analytics to guide local decision-making
• Provide variance analysis and full understanding of plant level results and explaining results and variances to Operations leadership and Business Unit Finance

PLANNING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT

• Partner with the Operations plant team and the Operations Finance Analyst in the plant wide budget process coordinating all departments and promoting productivity and cost savings plans and targets
• Partner with the Operations Finance Analyst and Operations plant team in developing short and long-term reliable estimates of the level of expenses to be incurred by the plant related to expected volumes
• Complete month end closing activities such as preparation or approval of journal entries, review of account balances and explanation and presentation of results

PLANT INVESTMENT

• Partner with plant leadership to develop and execute a strategic roadmap for capital spending, ensuring critical projects are completed on time, on budget and are embedded in plans
• Conduct post-completion analysis of critical investments (capital or otherwise) to ensure main deliverables, both financial and operational, are met

INVENTORY CONTROL AND PRODUCT COSTING

• Work with demand and supply teams to ensure visibility and optimize inventory health in raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
• Support Plant Operations team as the on-site liaison to optimize inventory
• Ensure inventory accuracy and improve areas around excess and obsolete inventory and scrap
• Work with the Operations Finance Analyst to ensure that product cost reflects plant operations at a product level

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting
• 6+ years of experience
• Prior manufacturing financial support experience required
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Travel at least annually to the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania PPG headquarter location
