Job summary

PPG Industries in Cleveland, OH is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead the second shift in automotive coatings manufacturing. You will supervise, coach, and develop operators while ensuring safety, quality, and on‑time delivery. The role requires strong communication with first and night shift teams and close coordination with Maintenance.

The position operates Monday–Friday, 9:30 pm–5:30 am with occasional overtime and weekend support. Competitive benefits available.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate second‑shift production activities (batching, mixing, filling, packaging).
  • Ensure adherence to production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
  • Monitor workflow, equipment utilization, and labor efficiency to maximize output.
  • Partner with first/night shift leadership for seamless handoff and communication.
  • Supervise, coach and develop production operators and support staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback and address disciplinary issues.
  • Maintain staffing levels and coordinate overtime to meet production demands.
  • Foster accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure proper operation of mixers, pumps and filling lines.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance on breakdowns and preventive maintenance.
  • Minimize downtime through proactive problem‑solving.
  • Maintain production records, shift reports and KPI tracking.
  • Communicate shift performance, issues and priorities to management.
  • Ensure compliance with audits and regulatory documentation.
  • Assign work to unionized hourly workforce and enforce processes.
  • Support problem resolution with cross‑functional teams and payroll requirements.

Job Description

The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all second-shift manufacturing operations within their area of responsibility. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production while meeting customer specifications, delivery timelines, and regulatory requirements. The supervisor will drive team performance, enforce process discipline, promote continuous improvement, and 5s concepts.

Through process confirmation and building worker accountability, you will ensure that the shift is running safely, efficiently, and producing quality products.

  • The hours for this position will be Monday through Friday, 9:30 pm to 5:30 am. with occasional overtime and weekend support required.

You will work onsite in Cleveland, OH Plant and will report to the Production Superintendent. PPG offers excellent Medical, Dental, & Vision Benefits; matching 401k + retirement savings; and Paid Vacation, Holiday pay.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate second-shift production activities, including batching, mixing, filling, and packaging of automotive coatings.

  • Ensure adherence to production schedules and customer delivery requirements.

  • Partner with first-shift and night shift leadership to ensure seamless shift handoff and communication.

  • Maintain staffing levels and coordinate overtime as needed to meet production demands.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure proper operation of mixers, pumps, filling lines, and related equipment.

  • Coordinate with Maintenance to address equipment breakdowns and support preventive maintenance schedules.

  • Minimize downtime through proactive problem-solving.

  • Maintain accurate production records, shift reports, and KPI tracking.

  • Communicate shift performance, issues, and priorities to management.

  • Ensure compliance with all documentation requirements for audits and regulatory bodies.

  • Capable of assigning work to a unionized hourly workforce and holding employees accountable for following processes pertaining to daily work assignments term of safety quality and throughput requirements

  • Support problem resolution with cross functional teams including quality engineer EHS and other support resources on campus. Resolve workflow problems by analyzing roadblocks and organizing work to improve use of personnel, material and equipment resources

  • Conduct payroll requirements for team members that you are assigned

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement tools.

  • Understanding of safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, EPA).

  • Ability to analyze data and make sound operational decisions.

  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office.

This role has a salary range $70,000 to $85,000 depending on experience.
