Executive Alliance is partnering with a growing public manufacturing company in the Wichita area to recruit a hands-on Plant Controller. The role leads a small onsite team, partners with the Plant GM, and reports to the Corporate Controller based out of state.

Candidates willing to relocate to the low-cost Wichita area will be considered. Salary around $125k, plus 401k, ESOP, bonus, stock options, and substantial medical benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• 5+ years of accounting, reporting and analysis experience.
• 2–3 years in a manufacturing plant as Plant Controller/ACM.
• Hands-on cost and inventory accounting experience.
• Payroll management for 50+ employees, Kronos preferred.
• Strong Excel and ERP system experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end plant close with GL reconciliations and accruals.
• Prepare plant GL balance sheet and P&L with one set of accounts.
• Oversee AP (~200 payments/mo), AR (~100 invoices/mo) and payroll.
• Manage revenue recognition upon shipment and cost variances.
• Perform standard costing, inventory reserves, and FIFO/LIFO.
• Support banking, audits, IT projects and ERP migrations.
• Monitor A/R aging and credit exposure; drive process improvements.
• Contribute to FP&A, reporting and ad-hoc projects.

Job description

A growing, publicly-listed manufacturing company is hiring a 'hands on' Plant Controller for its manufacturing facility in the Wichita, KS Metro Area. Manage and mentor a team of 3 based onsite, work closely with the Plant General Manager based onsite, and report directly to the Corporate Controller who is based out of state.

Candidates ready to relocate to the low-cost Wichita area will be considered.

My client will consider candidates at the Assistant Controller and Accounting Manager levels who are ready to advance to the Plant Controller / Controller level.

Main Responsibilities:

• Month-end plant financial close, including preparation of GL a/c reconciliations, accruals, etc.
• Preparation of balance sheet and P&L for plant-based GL accounts (one GL, no consolidation)
• Manage and monitor A/P (~200 vendor payments/mo), A/R (~100 customer invoices/mo), day-to-day accounting operations, and payroll for the plant's 100-125 non-union employees
• Manage revenue recognition which is straightforward (recognized upon shipment)
• Perform cost accounting, including standard costing of materials, actual to standard materials variance analysis, etc.
• Perform inventory accounting, including proper FIFO/LIFO valuation, reserves for obsolete inventory and monthly physical count process
• Assist Corporate Controller with banking activities
• Assist Corporate Controller with internal and external audits
• Assist with IT upgrades and implementations
• Review A/R aging and customer credit limits to identify potential customer credit exposures
• Continuously monitor and propose improvements to processes and procedures
• Participate in ad-hoc accounting, FP&A, reporting and and projects in support of the overall business unit

Main Requirements:

• B.S. in Accounting or Finance
• 5+ years of relevant accounting, reporting and analysis experience performing the requirements noted above, INCLUDING at least 2-3 years of relevant experience at a manufacturing plant (as Plant Controller / Assistant Controller / Accounting Manager). Experience MUST BE at a company that 'OWNS' THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS (NOT outsourced to third party contract manufacturers).
• 'Hands on' cost and inventory accounting experience is important
• Experience managing the payroll for at least 50 employees, preferably using Kronos
• Experience managing & prioritizing the work of others and reviewing their work
• User experience with large ERPs
• Strong in Excel

Preferred:

• Experience as the Accounting point person / SME for an ERP migration

A Plus:

• Oracle and Syspro user experience
