Executive Alliance is helping a growing manufacturing company in the Wichita, KS area hire a hands-on Plant Controller. You will lead a 3-person onsite team and report to the Corporate Controller, coordinating with the Plant General Manager.

The role involves month-end close, plant-level financials, A/P/A/R, payroll for 100–125 employees, revenue/cost accounting, and inventory controls. On-site work five days a week with a strong emphasis on process improvement and ERP migration.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Accounting or Finance is required.
• 5+ years of accounting, reporting and analysis experience in manufacturing.
• Hands-on cost and inventory accounting experience is critical.
• Experience leading and mentoring others in an accounting team.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end financial close and reconciliations.
• Prepare plant-level balance sheet and P&L statements.
• Oversee AP, AR, payroll for 100–125 employees.
• Own revenue recognition and cost accounting processes.
• Manage inventory accounting including weekly cycles and monthly counts.
• Support ERP migration and internal/external audits.
• Deliver weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting packages.

Job description

One of our clients - a growing, publicly-listed manufacturing company, is hiring a 'hands on' Plant Controller for its manufacturing facility located within commuting distance of Wichita, KS.

Manage and mentor a team of 3 based onsite, work closely with the Plant General Manager based onsite, and the Corporate Controller based out of state, reporting to the Corporate Controller.

Salary to ~$110k (maybe a bit more for a really strong candidate), plus 401k, plus discretionary payment of bonuses & grant of stock options.

The work is onsite 5 days a week, ~8-9 hour days outside of the monthly close, and ~8-10 hour days during the close ~1 week/month.

My client will consider candidates ready to advance to Plant Controller / Controller level, including those at the Plant Assistant Controller, Plant Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller and Accounting Manager levels.

Main Responsibilities:

• Month-end financial close, including preparation of GL account reconciliations, accruals, etc.


• Preparation of balance sheet and P&L for plant-based GL accounts (one GL, no consolidation)


• Manage and monitor A/P (~200 vendor payments per month), A/R (~100 customer invoices per month), day-to-day accounting operations, and payroll for the plant's 100-125 non-union employees prepared in-house


• Own / perform revenue recognition which is fairly straightforward (recognized upon shipment)


• Own / perform cost accounting, including standard costing of materials, actual to standard materials variance analysis, BOM's, etc.


• Own / perform inventory accounting, including LCM, FIFO/LIFO, reserves for obsolete inventory, cycle counts, and monthly physical count process


• Assist Corporate Controller with banking activities


• Assist Corporate Controller with internal and external audits


• Prepare internal reporting / packages on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis


• Instrumental in migrating from Oracle to a new ERP


• Assist in identifying potential customer credit exposure by actively reviewing A/R aging and credit limits


• Continuously monitor and propose improvements to processes and procedures


• Participate in ad-hoc accounting, FP&A, reporting and systems initiatives and projects which may include company acquisitions and supporting the overall business unit

Main Requirements:

• B.S. in Accounting or Finance


• At least 5 years of relevant accounting, reporting and analysis experience performing the requirements noted above, INCLUDING at least 2-3 years of relevant Plant Controller / Assistant Controller experience at a manufacturing company that 'OWNS' THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS (NOT outsourced to third party manufacturing companies). 'Hands on' cost and inventory accounting experience is critical.


• Experience preparing full-cycle payroll in house (not through a 3rd party such as ADP) for at least 100 employees, preferably using Kronos


• Experience as the Accounting point person / SME for an ERP migration


• Oracle and Syspro user experience a plus


• Able to travel overnight from time to time, but infrequently (~2 to 10 nights per year)


• Experience managing others, including reviewing & prioritizing their work, training & mentoring, and performing performance reviews.
