Description
We seek a highly motivated, experienced Controller with a strong accounting background and hands-on attitude that is willing to grow with us. Located at our Madison, ME plant, the Controller will be the right hand to the CFO and a key member of the plant management team, working closely with the Plant Manager. They will plan and direct the accounting operations of the company, leading the accounting and reporting functions for multiple EINs. The Controller will oversee a team tasked with performing all day-to-day finance and accounting tasks, regular internal and external reporting, coordination of tax reporting and internal and external required communications.
Requirements
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Oversee, support, and grow the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
- Establish and expand a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk; enforce internal controls to maximize the protection of company assts, policies, procedures, and workflow
- Manage month-end close process and reporting, general ledger reconciliations, account analyses and produce periodic financial reports; ensuring the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles
- Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual reports with appropriate internal and external stakeholders
- Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements as well as the requirements of private contributions, loans, and grants
- Recommend financial and non-financial key performance indicators that will be used to measure the company’s performance, develop periodic reporting, and implement modern BI reporting
- Maintain and improve the annual budget and forecast process, including variance and year-to-go reporting to management
- Provide financial analysis, supporting capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
- Achieve accounting department budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective action
- Manage all financial data in the company’s accounting and planning software (Epicor, Centage)
- Work with external auditors and provide the required information for the annual audit
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
- Implement consistent account policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation
- Actively support internal and external business partners to achieve the highest level of customer/client satisfaction
- Ad-hoc assignments from CFO, Director of Corporate Treasury and mill management or other projects.
Qualifications/ Required Skills
- Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards (GAAP)
- Outstanding management and supervisory skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software (e.g., Epicor, Centage)
- Proven project management leadership skills and ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Education, Experience and Licensing Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar required
- Five years or more related experience; preferable in manufacturing
- Supervisory experience preferred
