Job summary

General Motors seeks a Controls Engineer Intern to assist maintenance personnel with operation and maintenance of specialist equipment. You will gain hands-on exposure to electrical root cause analysis, problem solving, and leadership in a manufacturing setting.

The role emphasizes safety, ergonomics, and housekeeping, with opportunities to work across plant teams on projects, planning, and tooling improvements.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Controls Engineering.
• Must be graduating between August 2027 and June 2029.
• Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week.
• Willing to work in a plant environment.

Responsibilities

• Leads electrical projects including new or operations improvements, and periodic repair and replacement.
• Represents engineering in plant meetings to support performance goals.
• Develops cost estimates, investment forecasts, and plans for minor projects.
• Uses statistical methods for continuous improvement on plant systems.
• Develops planning timetables and project schedules.
• Coordinates changes to improve assembly processes.
• Programs manufacturing technology (PLC, robotics, HMI).
• Analyzes product and process to determine best methods of manufacture.
• Assists in designing and building tools and equipment or suggests improvements.
