The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Planning and Permitting seeks two Plans Examining Engineer IVs to review building plans for code compliance and safety in Honolulu. This full-time, permanent role oversees the Plans Examining Unit and collaborates with architects, engineers, and inspectors to ensure strong, safe designs.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty, Hawaii professional Civil or Structural engineer license, and at least three years of

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty.
• Current Hawaii professional Civil or Structural engineer licensure.
• Three years of non-registered Civil or Structural engineering experience.

Responsabilidades

• Check plans and specifications for building permit applications and ensure compliance with engineering standards, the Building Code, and other regulations.
• Review major building designs and assist in evaluating complex structures for structural adequacy.
• Advise and consult with architects, engineers, and the inspection team on structural designs and code compliance.
• Approve building permits and ensure designs meet all safety and regulatory requirements.
• Manage the Plans Examining Unit by setting goals, developing policies and procedures, overseeing budgets, and recommending staffing and resources as needed.
• Assist the public and conduct inspections by answering questions, interpreting building codes, guiding permit requirements, conducting field inspections for major engineering issues, and recommending revisions to codes or procedures.
• Perform other related duties as needed.
