Job summary

City of Santee is seeking a Plans Examiner to review and apply building code standards for residential, commercial, and industrial plans. The role issues permits, enforces codes, collects fees, and assists the public at the counter.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least three years of plan review experience, with ICC certifications desirable. The position is non-telecommuting and requires collaboration with multiple departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Planning, Building, Engineering, Architecture, GIS, Public Administration or related field.
• Three years of progressively responsible experience reviewing building plans for code compliance.

Responsibilities

• Staffs the public counter to assist customers and applicants.
• Reviews construction plans for compliance with codes and regulations.
• Coordinates with other departments on plan requirements and encumbrances.
• Meets with applicants to discuss code issues and clarifications.
• Uses EnerGov or similar systems to process permits and track projects.
• Perform field observations or inspections to verify development issues.
