Job summary

Join Bureau Veritas North America as a Plans Examiner in Southern California, Las Vegas, NV, Sacramento, CA, or Phoenix, AZ. You will review building plans for compliance with IBC, IRC, and local codes, ensure safety and energy efficiency, and collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors.

The ideal candidate holds an ICC Plans Examiner certification (or can obtain it within a set period) and has experience in municipal or county government settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
• ICC Certification as Plans Examiner (or ability to obtain) within a specified period.
• Proven experience in building plan review and code compliance.
• Strong knowledge of IBC, IRC, and local, state, and national codes.
• Analytical and communication skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency with drafting/modeling software (AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam).
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to inspection sites.

Responsibilities

• Review building plans for compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, and ordinances.
• Conduct thorough plan examinations to verify structural integrity, fire safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve deficiencies.
• Provide technical guidance to staff and trainees; assist in training new plans examiners.
• Represent the department professionally with internal and external stakeholders and perform field inspections as needed.
