Job summary

City of Vancouver in Washington seeks an Associate Plans Examiner to perform professional and technical work in building codes. You will review plans and permit submittals for compliance with city and state codes, and assist architects, engineers, homeowners, and the public with code interpretations.

The role involves coordinating plan reviews with multiple departments, maintaining records, and providing guidance on code requirements.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in construction trades as contractor, building inspector, plans examiner.
• Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree with major coursework in architecture, engineering, building inspection, construction technology, or related field.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of International Building, Energy, Residential, Fire, Mechanical Codes, and related amendments and ordinances.

Responsibilities

• Technical review of construction plans, specifications, and calculations to verify structural elements will safely resist loads and meet codes.
• Review plans for code compliance of health and welfare features (lighting, ventilation, heating/cooling, water and waste systems).
• Meet with architects, engineers, contractors, and public to explain code requirements and assist with compliance; conduct site inspections as needed.
• Enter plan review information and update permit tracking system; maintain files and reports.
• Coordinate plan review activities with permit team, Building Inspectors, Land Use Planning, Engineering Services, and Fire Marshal’s Office.
• Research, analyze, and review existing and proposed code requirements and recommend changes to management.
