Cypress Lake Solutions, LLC is seeking a Plans and Procedures Specialist | Munitions Demilitarization to plan, write, edit, and coordinate safety-critical technical documents for demilitarization programs at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

Location

This position supports the U.S. Army DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center (AvMC) Fires Directorate at Redstone Arsenal, located near Huntsville, AL.

Work environment primarily consists of onsite office space and conference rooms and may also include engineering laboratories, machine shops, fabrication facilities, ammunition and explosives work areas, outdoor weapons test ranges, and operational demilitarization facilities.

Job Description

The Plans and Procedures Specialist | Munitions Demil plans, authors, edits, coordinates, and maintains safety-critical technical documents supporting demilitarization research and development. The specialist attends HAWGs, technical interchange meetings, test planning sessions, and post-test reviews to capture approved methods, hazards, controls, roles, equipment, prerequisites, sequence of operations, hold points, emergency actions, and lessons learned. Source material may include engineering sketches, test data, equipment manuals, drawings, safety analyses, environmental requirements, interviews, and field observations. The specialist converts this input into concise, logically sequenced documents that can be understood and executed by qualified personnel.

A primary job duty is routing technical documents for government review and approval through AvMC's Document Review System (DRS). The specialist prepares documents for submission, verifies completeness and required metadata, initiates and monitors review workflows, coordinates with government reviewers and subject matter experts, adjudicates comments, incorporates approved changes, and maintains accurate status and records of current approved versions.

Prior EOD, demilitarization, or similar experience is a major differentiator for this position. The preferred candidate applies EOD-informed judgment when interviewing subject matter experts, evaluating proposed operations, recognizing missing prerequisites or controls, resolving ambiguous terminology, validating the sequence of hazardous tasks, and documenting contingencies and emergency actions. Candidates who have personally performed hands‑on work with munitions and energetic systems will be especially well positioned to convert engineering concepts into procedures that qualified operators can execute safely and consistently.

Work frequently addresses innovative methods to disassemble rocket motors and warheads safely and in an environmentally responsible manner. Documentation may define methods to cut or segment rocket motors for characterization testing; access, characterize, and dispose of energetic ingredients; safely disassemble or dispose of warheads and other munition components; and employ remote or shielded tooling to reduce personnel exposure. The preferred candidate uses prior demil or EOD experience to understand munition construction, initiation systems, explosive hazards, remote operations, personnel exposure, and the consequences of procedural deviations. The specialist works closely with demil subject matter experts to ensure procedural language accurately reflects approved technical approaches without introducing unsupported steps or assumptions.

Responsibilities include developing document outlines and templates; researching applicable technical sources; conducting subject matter expert interviews; recording working‑group decisions; drafting procedural text, warnings, cautions, notes, process flows, checklists, and supporting illustrations; managing review comments and revisions; verifying terminology and cross‑references; supporting walkthroughs, dry runs, and test events; and updating documents to reflect as‑tested or as‑built configurations and lessons learned. The specialist maintains document version history and configuration discipline and coordinates reviews with engineering, safety, environmental, quality, operations, and customer stakeholders.

The specialist also supports transition of validated processes to Army depots and other production‑scale demilitarization facilities. This requires translating one‑time or low‑rate research and development methods into standardized, repeatable plans and procedures suitable for execution hundreds, thousands, or hundreds of thousands of times. The specialist helps identify the documentation, training, tooling, inspection, safety, environmental, and quality‑control considerations needed to maintain compliance and performance at scale. The position requires sound judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and a willingness to work near hazardous energetic materials under approved controls and qualified supervision and may include day‑or overnight‑travel to Army depots to assist with technology, plans, and procedures transition.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in technical communication, English, engineering, physical science, safety, or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education, specialized military training, and/or relevant experience may be considered.
• 5-10+ years of relevant experience in technical writing, procedure development, engineering documentation, explosives safety, EOD, demilitarization, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience authoring and editing complex technical documents such as SOPs, Work Instructions, Test Plans, maintenance procedures, technical manuals, or other controlled procedures.
• Ability to translate complex subject matter expert input into accurate, usable, step‑by‑step instructions for safety‑critical work.
• Strong research, interviewing, writing, editing, proofreading, and document‑organization skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of document control, configuration management, revision history, and approval workflows.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, diagramming, database, and email software tools, including advanced Microsoft Word formatting.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• With proper training, oversight, and safety measures, ability to work with and around hazardous propellant, explosive, and energetic materials.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to obtain certification for handling or transporting ammunition and explosives on Redstone Arsenal, if required.
• Ability to obtain respirator certification, asbestos worker or supervisor certification, and/or HAZWOPPER certification, if required.
• Capability to work safely in office, rugged outdoor, high‑bay, laboratory, manufacturing, test‑range, and demilitarization environments.
• Ability to travel up to 25% if required by mission.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior military or civilian demilitarization and/or EOD experience is strongly preferred and will receive significant consideration in candidate evaluation.
• Experience participating in or supporting technical working groups, capturing decisions and action items, coordinating reviews, and/or adjudicating comments.
• Experience routing, tracking, and coordinating technical documents through controlled review and government approval workflows.
• Graduation from a recognized military EOD school or comparable formal EOD training, together with documented operational, test, training, or demilitarization experience.
• Hands‑on experience with conventional munitions, missile systems, rocket motors, warheads, fuzes, initiators, propellants, explosives, pyrotechnics, or other energetic materials.
• Experience applying operational judgment when developing, reviewing, or executing EOD and/or Demilitarization Plans, render‑safe or disposal procedures, explosives safety SOPs, Work Instructions, and Test Plans.
• Ability to recognize missing prerequisites, ambiguous hazard controls, unsafe sequencing, personnel‑exposure concerns, remote‑operation requirements, and incomplete emergency actions in draft procedures.
• Experience supporting HAWGs, hazard analyses, explosives safety reviews, operational risk assessments, or other multidisciplinary reviews of hazardous munition operations.
• Knowledge of munition construction, fuzing and initiation systems, explosive effects, combustion, detonation, and initiation mechanisms in energetic materials.
• Experience supporting Resource, Recovery, and Recycling (R3), closed disposal, environmental hazards abatement, or other environmentally responsible disposal technologies.
• Experience transitioning technology or procedures from research and development to Army depots, production facilities, or other operational environments.
• Experience with robotics, remotely operated equipment, shielded operations, machining, or other tools used to reduce personnel exposure during hazardous work.
• Experience working directly with Department of War or military customers and using a government document‑routing and approval system.
