Job summary

Erie County Planning & Community Development is seeking an advanced level professional to coordinate, administer and execute planning activities across Coastal Zone Management, CDBG, Comprehensive/Land Use Planning, and Transportation/MPO. You will lead local and regional efforts, prepare recommendations, and communicate with officials and the public.

The role requires at least a bachelor's in planning, a minimum of two years' professional planning experience, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Planning or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of Professional Planning Experience in Local, County or Regional Planning.
• Must have a Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Development, review, and/or administration of plans and policies at the local, county or regional level.
• Collection, organization, analysis and presentation of data, including researching documents and extracting data pertinent to the development, review or administration of applicable program plans and policies.
• Preparation of recommendations for action to be taken at the local, county, or regional level.
• Preparation of correspondence to answer oral and written inquiries regarding plans and the planning process.
• Development of presentations for local elected officials, planning commissions and boards, economic development agencies and boards, civic groups and associations, and the general public.
• Extensive contact with public officials, local and regional planning commissions, civic groups and associations, and the general public to assist in discussion of plans and policies and in answering questions and seeking cooperation and participation in the planning process.
• Providing technical advice and assistance.

Required Skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, including knowledge of research methodology (statistical and mathematical techniques).
• An understanding of laws and regulations related to planning and zoning.
• Familiarity and involvement with the applicable planning program area is preferred.
• Ability to extract, organize, analyze and present data, and express ideas clearly and concisely in oral, written and graphic form.
• High level technical competence with Microsoft software is required.
• Working knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) applications is highly desirable.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, staff of other agencies, public officials and the general public; good judgment and initiative.

• Experience in community engagement and public participation processes.
• Knowledge of grant writing and administration.
