Job summary

The City of San Mateo, Planning Division, is offering a paid Planning Intern internship. The role supports research, data gathering, and development projects within the Planning Division, providing hands-on experience in urban planning.

Ideal candidates are pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in urban planning or related fields and have strong communication, research, and organizational skills. Flexible schedule up to 30 hours per week is available.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing an undergraduate or master's degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography, Public Administration, Public Policy, or related field.
• Interest in pursuing planning as a career with practical experience in a fast-paced department.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and related planning tools.

Responsibilities

• gather and present data for special assignments
• create illustrative graphics, flyers, and informational handouts
• work on housing and general plan updates
• assist with current development and long-range planning projects
• investigate and propose responses to questions or inquiries from residents
• provide planning customer support at the public counter/virtual counter
