Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) Office of Emergency Management seeks a Planning Coordinator to lead institutional emergency preparedness planning, coordinate THIRA efforts, and support EOC activations.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's degree with 3+ years in emergency management or related fields, and may have advanced degrees; strong organization, communication, and drafting of emergency plans are essential.

  • Strong time management, organization, and communication skills.
  • Experience drafting emergency operations plans and related documents.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local, and UNC System Office planning guidance including CPG 101, EMAP standards, and System directives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead emergency preparedness planning efforts for the institution.
  • Assist the Director in setting strategy for drafting, implementing, and revising all emergency plans for the institution.
  • Facilitate planning meetings related to emergency planning initiatives.
  • Assist the department in planning, implementing, and evaluating emergency preparedness training and exercises.

Job description

Planning Coordinator

Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time

Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Monday - Friday, weekend and overnight hours, as necessary, during large events and incident response/emergency operations center activation.

Salary Range: $62,115 - $65,000

Work Location: Building 55, FM/PPS

Primary Purpose of Department

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is responsible for the planning and coordination of the Institution's operational emergency preparedness, response, and recovery from a disaster. OEM adheres to a comprehensive all-hazards, whole community approach to incident management based on the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) National Incident Management System (NIMS).

Primary Purpose of Position
  • Lead emergency preparedness planning efforts for the institution.
  • Assist the Director in setting strategy for drafting, implementing, and revising all emergency plans for the institution.
  • Facilitate planning meetings related to emergency planning initiatives.
  • Assist the department in planning, implementing, and evaluating emergency preparedness training and exercises.
Summary of Position Responsibilities

The position responsibilities are as follows:

  • Manage planning efforts for the Institution, including the emergency operations plan and related documents
  • Lead THIRA efforts
  • Assist with EOC activations
  • Support OEM initiatives as needed
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience in emergency management, risk management, business continuity, or related fields; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Five years of experience in emergency management (or related field).
  • Experience in emergency/disaster operations is highly beneficial.
  • Strong time management, organization, and communication skills.
  • Experience in drafting emergency operations plans and related documents.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local, and UNC System Office planning guidance to include CPG 101, EMAP standards, and System directives.
  • Experience with emergency management-related software or other applicable systems.
  • Experience in emergency management at an educational institution.
  • Applicable NIMS/ICS training.
Necessary Certifications/Licenses

ICS 300 & 400.

Preferred Certifications/Licenses
  • CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional);
  • CEM (Certified Emergency Manager);
  • CPM (Certified Project Manager);
  • ARM (Associate in Risk Management);
  • CRM (Certified Risk Manager); or similar state certifications.
