Job description

The Planning and Development Clerk I is an essential support role within the Planning and Development Department of the City of Borger, responsible for providing clerical and administrative assistance to departmental staff and supporting code enforcement activities and personnel. In addition to routine clerical tasks, this position involves assisting with the coordination of code enforcement efforts, maintaining related records and documentation, and providing support to code enforcement personnel.   1. Data Entry: Enter and maintain accurate records of code enforcement activities, violations, inspections, and compliance actions in departmental databases and record-keeping systems.
  2. Document Management: File and organize records, reports, notices, citations, and other documents related to code enforcement activities in accordance with departmental procedures and record retention policies.
  3. Customer Service: Assist customers in person, by phone, and via email with inquiries and complaints related to code violations, enforcement procedures, and property maintenance standards.
  4. Complaint Intake: Receive and document complaints and reports of code violations from residents, businesses, and other stakeholders, forwarding them to appropriate code enforcement personnel for investigation.
  5. Support for Inspections: Assist code enforcement officers with scheduling inspections, preparing inspection reports, and documenting findings and enforcement actions.
  6. Notice Preparation: Prepare and distribute notices of code violations, compliance deadlines, hearings, and other enforcement actions to property owners and stakeholders as directed by code enforcement personnel.
  7. Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to code enforcement personnel, including copying, scanning, faxing, and filing documents, as well as preparing correspondence and reports.
  8. Public Education: Assist in the development and dissemination of educational materials and outreach efforts to inform the public about code requirements, property maintenance standards, and enforcement procedures.
  9. Training and Development: Participate in training and professional development activities to enhance job knowledge and skills related to code enforcement support functions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in business administration, public administration, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in clerical support, customer service, or administrative assistance desirable but not required.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn and use departmental software systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
