Job summary

San Bernardino County Land Use Services seeks a Planning Analyst to support the Current Planning Team with complex planning, research, data analysis, and policy support for development review and departmental activities.

The role involves leading or coordinating special projects, collecting and presenting data, drafting policies, initiating process improvements, and providing trainings to staff. A Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, Geography, Environmental Policy or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional level experience in urban planning, analytical duties, special projects coordination, data/statistical analysis or reporting.
  • Degrees earned outside the United States must be accompanied by evaluation for U.S. equivalency.

Job description

San Bernardino County Land Use Services is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and adaptable Planning Analyst* to join our team. The successful candidate will support the Current Planning Team within the Planning Division, performing a broad range of complex operational, research, analytical, technical, and administrative functions in support of development review and departmental activities. Based on the assignment, the Planning Analyst will lead or coordinate special projects and studies, collecting, analyzing and presenting data, completing periodic reports for stake holders, writing new policies, initiating process improvements, and/or updating, and tracking program compliance and providing trainings to staff as requested.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

REQUIRED EDUCATION

A completed Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, Geography, Environmental Policy or a related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional level experience in urban planning, analytical duties, special projects coordination, data/statistical analysis and reporting, and/or organizational/staffing analysis or related experience.

Note: Qualifying degrees must be conferred by institutions accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Degrees earned outside the United States must be accompanied by an evaluation from a recognized credential evaluation service verifying U.S. equivalency. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Professional experience in the planning field, including experience as a Research Assistant, Planning Secretary, Planning Technician, Planner, Analyst, or similar position within a municipal Community Development or Planning Department or a private planning consulting firm.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously while meeting established deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups, colleagues, applicants, and members of the public
