Summary of Position
A Planner facilitates the timely planning of deliveries within a supply chain. They optimize inventory planning to meet service, cost, and delivery objectives. Planners oversee logistics and schedule resources (technicians/equipment), manage budgets, and ensure that work is on schedule and timelines/lead times are communicated to the customer service team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Generate master schedule to establish sequence and lead time of each operation to meet shipping dates according to sales forecasts or customer orders.
- Plan and schedule workflow for each department and operation according to previously established manufacturing sequences and lead times; release production work orders.
- Expedite parts for customers and operations that delay schedules and alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
- Evaluate exception requests and communicate approval or disapproval to appropriate individuals.
- Approve customer purchase orders; determine lead time information; when customers need less time than normal lead time, evaluate material availability to determine how the request fits within material availability and scheduling requirements.
- Review engineering change notices and locate parts to meet latest revision requirements.
- Create rework orders for parts that need rework.
Education
- Some college preferred
- High School Diploma or relevant experience
Experience
- Solid understanding of planning and scheduling.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure and compute amounts such as discounts, interest, and percent.
- Effective verbal communication skills in one‑on‑one situations with management and coworkers.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret work orders, blueprints, and specifications; write routine reports and correspondence.
- Application of common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions; ability to handle problems involving multiple variables; perform repetitive mental functions.
- Proficiency with software and equipment used in the department, including Microsoft Excel and ERP systems such as SAP.
- Professional interaction and development of strong working relationships with co‑workers, supervisors, vendors, and customers.
- Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy.
- Dependability, ability to follow instructions, respond to direction, and take responsibility for own actions.
- Initiative, willingness to ask for and offer help, and ability to work independently without prompting.

Compensation
Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
