Job summary

Austal USA in Mobile, AL is hiring a Senior Lead Planner to manage planning and scheduling activities for complex shipbuilding projects. This role defines budgets, sequences, and schedule logic per EVMS guidelines and works closely with Planning, Production, Project, Scheduling, and Engineering teams.

The ideal candidate has a BS degree in a relevant field, plus planning experience in a shipyard setting, and proficiency with EVMS, MPS, and MRP systems.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Construction Management or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year planning experience preferred in shipyard or similar environment.
  • Aptitude to learn shipyard planning and EVMS processes.
  • Experience with EVMS and performance measurement is a plus.
  • Knowledge of MPS and MRP systems is advantageous.
  • Effective communication with multiple departments and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Define activities, budgets and schedule logic in accordance with EVMS guidelines.
  • Establish sequencing, usage phase and build location for structural components.
  • Collect, review and implement lessons learned from work packages and meetings.
  • Incorporate internal change into work packages and schedule.
  • Review drawings for producibility and completeness of content.
  • Assist trades and scheduling with baseline changes to transfer work scope to and from a subcontractor.
  • Answer production questions about work scope.
  • Build work packages including steps and budgets for tasks.
  • Electronically assign material to work packages.
  • Assemble drawings and send documents to Document Control.
  • Populate planning database with work scope items and attributes.
  • Assist work package makers with processing shop orders.

REPORTS TO:Sr. Lead PlannerPlanning and Scheduling ManagerSUPERVISES: Not ApplicableAUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:Define activities, budgets and schedule logic in accordance with established EVMS guidelines with reference to similar work.Establish sequencing, usage phase and build location for structural components based on facility capacity and build strategy.Collect, review and implement lessons learned from work packages and meetings.Incorporate internal change into work packages and schedule.Review drawings for producibility and completeness of content.Assist trades and scheduling with baseline changes to transfer work scope to and from a subcontractor.Answer production questions about work scope.Build Work packages to include, but not limited to: o Establishes steps and budgets for tasksElectronically assign material to work packagesAssemble applicable drawingsSend documents to Document Control for issuePopulate planning database with work scope items and attributes about those items (i.e. location, budget, drawing information, product types, etc.).Assist work package makers with processing shop orders.QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:BS Degree in a relevant field (such as Engineering, Business Administration, or Construction Management) or 1 year experience at Austal USA or a comparable shipyardMinimum 1 year planning experience (Preferred experience includes division of work scope within modules, across stages of construction, with material and budget allocation responsibilities.)Aptitude to learn the job of shipyard planning, must score 20 or higher on Cognitive Criteria Aptitude TestComputer literate utilizing Microsoft Excel.
