The City of Plantation is seeking a Planner I or II to support urban planning and development initiatives. This role involves conducting research, analyzing data, and preparing reports while ensuring compliance with city regulations. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills and relevant educational backgrounds in urban planning or related fields.
Reviews plats, site plans, rezoning, and other development proposals for compliance with City Code and planning principles.
Participates in the review and processing of development applications, including conditional uses and variances.
Conducts studies, surveys, and field inspections related to land use, transportation, and community needs.
Prepares maps, charts, and presentations for internal use and for public meetings.
Assists in drafting and updating land development regulations and special area plans.
Presents findings and recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Board, City Council, and other bodies.
Compiles data for capital improvement programs and interfaces with consultants or other departments.
Supports community development or housing assistance programs, as applicable.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Planner I :
Assist in research, data collection, and graphic preparation under guidance of senior staff.
Support senior planners with site plan reviews and development applications.
Perform statistical and spatial analysis for routine planning issues.
Planner II:
Lead specific planning studies and comprehensive plan updates.
Prepare work programs and timelines for assigned projects.
Administer community development or housing assistance programs.
Represent the City at public meetings and facilitate interdepartmental coordination.
Knowledge of land use, zoning, and planning principles and practices.
Familiarity with comprehensive planning, site plan design, and land development codes.
Ability to analyze statistical and spatial data and prepare technical reports.
Skill in public speaking and written communication.
Proficiency in creating maps, charts, and visual aids; GIS experience is a plus.
Ability to interpret legal descriptions, surveys, and development documents.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with staff, officials, and the public.
Valid Florida driver’s license required.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Education:
Planner I: Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture, or related field.
Planner II: Master’s degree in Urban Planning or Public Administration preferred, with at least two years of relevant experience.
Experience:
Demonstrated progressive experience in urban planning, zoning, development review, or community development, appropriate to level.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid State of Florida driver’s license.
AICP certification desirable but not required.
