Full Time Professionals Rochester, NY, US

Salary Range: $60,000.00 To $70,000.00 Annually

Passero Associateshas an exciting opportunity in our Rochester, NY office for an entry level planner to work on a diverse range of assignments supporting our municipal and land development service lines, as well as provide technical support to our architectural and aviation practice areas.

Responsibilities involve the following:

  • Assist with reviewing development proposals and plans for conformance with municipal codes, comprehensive plans, studies and regulations.
  • Analysis of municipal regulations for the preparation of land use applications, such as special permits, variances, site plan review, and architectural and historic preservation review.
  • Conduct basic technical research in accordance with the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), including data analysis, preparation of the appropriate forms, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with preparation, coordination and submission of project submittal packages for zoning and site development review, including fee calculation.
  • Create digital and print presentation materials.
  • Assist with the preparation of forms, reports, and grant applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong organization skills, people skills, self-motivation, decision-making skills, and strategic planning skills.
  • Technical aptitude with regards to responding to municipal comments.
  • Excellent analytical, research and creative skills.
  • Ability to attend to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind.
  • Entry-level working knowledge of local, State and Federal regulatory permitting processes.
  • Entry-level working knowledge of urban planning and design principles, and site planning; civil engineering, building construction, architecture, land use and environmental law, zoning codes, and subdivision regulations a plus, but not required.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban, Community or Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Historic Preservation, Geography, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 0 to 2 years of practical experience in aspects of site planning, civil engineering, architectural design review, zoning codes, and general rules and procedures of land use boards and commissions.
  • Key skills include demonstrated excellence in technical writing; solid verbal and written communication skills; creative problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and in a team environment; ability to work on several projects or requests simultaneously.
  • Computer proficiency includes Microsoft Office suite, communication graphics and website related platforms is preferred.
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients, project teams, and colleagues internally and externally.
  • Knowledge of GIS is a plus, but not required.
