We are seeking aPlannerto join our team and support a variety of planning and development activities. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys applying planning principles to real-world projects, working with the community, and collaborating with applicants, property owners, developers, and City staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, you will assist senior planning staff with administering the Development Code, reviewing development proposals, responding to public inquiries, preparing technical planning materials, and supporting projects that influence how Hillsboro grows and develops.

  • Reviewing and analyzing information and mapping for development projects
  • Preparing high-quality technical planning documents, maps, graphics and presentations
  • Responding to public inquiries regarding zoning, land development, and the entitlement process
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a collaborative and detail-oriented planner who can apply sound judgment, communicate clearly, and effectively navigate a variety of planning and development questions. We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Advanced skills researching, analyzing, compiling and presenting information
  • General knowledge of Oregon land use planning structure
  • Experience providing customer service and engaging diverse community members
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is desirable
Current / Upcoming Projects

This position will have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of high-impact projects and initiatives, including:

  • Reviewing development proposals and pre-development inquiries
  • Reviewing building and sign permit applications
  • Monitoring Green Building certifications
  • Supporting process improvements and development code amendments
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Geography, or related field and two years of municipal planning related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

License(s) / Certifications
  • Valid, current Driver’s License and safe driving record
