Job summary

Spicer Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Planner to support the Planning, Parks & Recreation Service Line through the development and implementation of community planning, landscape architecture, and recreation planning projects.

This role will lead smaller projects or key portions of larger initiatives, prepare and review plans, feasibility studies, and planning documents, and contribute to client communication, budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Development, or related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to present to clients.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and ArcGIS.
  • Ability to obtain professional licensure in planning.
  • 3+ years of experience in community planning (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Leads smaller projects or significant portions of larger projects.
  • Develops and evaluates design plans, providing recommendations and preparing drawings, specifications, and cost estimates with minimal supervision.
  • Designs, develops, and reviews complex drawings for landscape architecture and planning projects.
  • Contributes to concept development by communicating with clients and stakeholders.
  • Performs pre-design services including feasibility studies and environmental impact analyses.
  • Supports budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Engages with municipalities, private developers, and community organizations.
  • Participates in master plans, zoning, land use, recreation planning, and grant writing.
  • Provides mentorship to planning staff.
  • Travel may be required.

PLANNER PLANNING, PARKS & RECREATION SERVICE LINE POSITION SUMMARY Spicer Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Planner to support the Planning, Parks & Recreation Service Line through the development and implementation of community planning, landscape architecture, and recreation planning projects. This role will lead smaller projects or key portions of larger initiatives, prepare and review plans, feasibility studies, and planning documents, and contribute to client communication, concept development, budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads smaller projects or significant portions of larger projects, managing both technical and project-related tasks.
  • Develops and evaluates design plans, providing recommendations and preparing drawings, specifications, and cost estimates with minimal supervision.
  • Designs, develops, and reviews complex drawings for landscape architecture and planning projects according to established standards.
  • Contributes to concept development by communicating with clients, identifying requirements, and examining options; may present concepts to clients independently.
  • Performs pre-design services, including feasibility studies, environmental impact analyses, site selection, and design requirement specifications.
  • Supports project management tasks such as budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Engages with a variety of clients, including municipalities, private developers, and community organizations.
  • Participates in advanced planning projects such as master plans, zoning ordinances, land use planning, recreation planning, corridor planning, and grant writing.
  • Provides mentorship to planning staff.
  • Physical presence is an essential function of this role. Occasional travel and attendance at evening meetings may be required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelors degree in Urban Planning, Regional Development, or related field.
  • Ability to obtain professional licensure in planning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Planner I competencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively present to clients and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and ArcGIS.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years of experience in community planning or a related field.
  • Background that demonstrates the ability to incorporate various aspects of community planning, such as the legal, historical, social, institutional, and architectural frameworks of the practice, and apply them to everyday planning problems.
