Job summary

Mdsci in Baltimore is seeking staff for our Digital Planetarium to present astronomy programs, operate projection tech, and ensure a welcoming experience for visitors. The role requires comfort presenting to diverse audiences and updating educational materials as needed.

Availability Tuesday–Saturday with some evenings; candidates should be reliable, team-oriented, and able to follow training protocols. Background check is required.

Qualifications

• Public speaking and engaging audiences during planetarium shows.
• Interest in astronomy and the night sky supports content delivery.
• One year of college coursework or equivalent experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor computer and projection equipment for shows.
• Manage crowds and physical space during programs.
• Provide excellent guest service to museum visitors and answer questions.
• Engage with visitors between shows and collect feedback.
• Attend onboarding/training sessions and pass a background check.

Job description

Present astronomy programs in our Digital Planetarium. Operate and monitor computer and projection equipment and manage crowds and physical space. Public speaking, knowledge/interest in astronomy and the night sky, comfortable learning digital planetarium software and technology, and a keen eye for detail are all necessary skills.

Availability from Tuesday to Saturday with some occasional evenings.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Experience working with the general public (including children)

• Ability to provide excellent guest service to museum visitors
• Engaging with the visitors between shows
• Updating and creating follow-up educational resources for teachers
• Potential opportunities to assist in development and implementation of programming

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Applicants must have completed at least one year of college coursework or comparable experience. Interest and/or coursework in science or education are encouraged
• Knowledge of basic science content
