Job summary

Maryland Science Center in Baltimore seeks a dynamic presenter to bring astronomy programs to life in our Digital Planetarium, operate projection equipment, and help manage crowds and the learning space.

Availability Tuesday through Saturday with occasional evenings. The role requires comfort speaking before diverse audiences, experience working with the public and children, and a genuine interest in science content and education to create engaging experiences for visitors and teachers alike.

Qualifications

• At least one year of college coursework or comparable experience.
• Interest or coursework in science or education encouraged.
• Knowledge of basic science content.

Responsibilities

• Present astronomy programs in the Digital Planetarium.
• Operate and monitor projection equipment and manage crowds.
• Engage with visitors between shows and provide guest services.
• Update educational resources for teachers.
• Assist in development and implementation of programming.
• Maintain materials and supplies.
• Attend onboarding sessions and pass a background check.

Job description

Present astronomy programs in our Digital Planetarium. Operate and monitor computer and projection equipment and manage crowds and physical space. Public speaking, knowledge/interest in astronomy and the night sky, comfortable learning digital planetarium software and technology, and a keen eye for detail are all necessary skills.

Availability from Tuesday to Saturday with some occasional evenings.

• Applicants must have completed at least one year of college coursework or comparable experience. Interest and/or coursework in science or education are encouraged
