Responsibilities

  • Host live and pre-recorded planetarium shows for audiences.
  • Deliver educational programs that engage various demographics.
  • Operate projection systems and troubleshoot technical issues as needed.
  • Operate planetarium projection systems, audio equipment, and show control software.
  • Monitor show quality and troubleshoot minor technical issues as they arise.
  • Communicate technical concerns to supervisors or IT when needed.
  • Welcome visitors and provide friendly, inclusive customer service.
  • Represent the Washington Pavilion in a professional and engaging way before, during, and after programs.
  • Assist with evening and weekend programs, school field trips, and special events.
  • Help with basic setup, cleanup, and space readiness.
  • Follow safety protocols and operational procedures.

Job description

Ever wanted to take people on a journey through space—without leaving Sioux Falls? The Washington Pavilion is looking for a Part‑Time Planetarium Presenter / Operator to help bring the universe to life for school groups, families, and curious minds of all ages.

This role is a blend of public speaking, guest engagement, and light technical operation. If you’re comfortable in front of a crowd, enjoy learning new technology, and love creating memorable experiences, this could be a great fit.

What You’ll Do
  • Host live and pre‑recorded planetarium shows for schools, families, and the general public.
  • Deliver engaging, age‑appropriate programs that support educational and interpretive goals.
  • Adapt presentations for different audiences and special events.
  • Operate planetarium projection systems, audio equipment, and show control software.
  • Monitor show quality and troubleshoot minor technical issues as they arise.
  • Communicate technical concerns to supervisors or IT when needed.
  • Welcome visitors and provide friendly, inclusive customer service.
  • Represent the Washington Pavilion in a professional and engaging way before, during, and after programs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience with live presentations, informal education, or technical production.
  • Familiarity with planetarium software (e.g., Digistar) or AV systems.
Schedule & Pay

Part‑time, hourly position.

Hours vary based on programming needs and include evenings and weekends.

Indoor planetarium setting with low lighting and amplified sound.

Fast‑paced during peak visitor times and special events.
