Job summary

Robbins Lumber, Inc. in Baldwin, ME is seeking a dependable Planer Operator to join our lumber mill team. Candidate will set up, operate, and maintain planer equipment to produce high-quality lumber per grade and customer specs.

Must have strong mechanical skills, knowledge of lumber grading standards, and a focus on safety and efficiency in a production setting. Responsibilities include adjusting planer settings, monitoring flow, performing routine maintenance, and collaborating with graders

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience operating a planer in a lumber mill
• Strong understanding of lumber dimensions, grades, and moisture content
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor equipment repairs
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, industrial setting
• Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate planer machines to meet production and quality standards
• Adjust planer settings for thickness, width, and surface finish
• Monitor lumber flow and identify defects or quality issues
• Ensure finished lumber meets grade specifications
• Inspect equipment daily and perform routine maintenance and knife changes
• Troubleshoot mechanical and production issues
• Maintain accurate production reports
• Work closely with graders, stacker operators, and maintenance staff
• Follow all safety policies and OSHA regulations
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
