Job description

The Opportunity

Avloni Law is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join our San Francisco team.

This position offers the opportunity to take meaningful responsibility for cases at every stage of litigation. The associate will work closely with the firm’s founder while developing the judgment and practical skills necessary to move cases forward—from initial investigation and pleading through discovery, depositions, mediation, motion practice, and trial preparation.

We are looking for an attorney who does more than complete assignments. The right candidate will think strategically, identify what should happen next, offer recommendations, communicate openly, and take shared ownership of our clients’ cases.

Responsibilities

The Associate Attorney will:

  • Research and analyze legal and factual issues arising in employment and civil rights matters.

  • Draft complaints, discovery, meet-and-confer correspondence, motions, oppositions, replies, mediation briefs, settlement communications, declarations, and trial materials.

  • Develop case theories and evaluate claims, defenses, damages, evidentiary gaps, and litigation risks.

  • Plan and manage written discovery, review document productions, identify deficiencies, and preserve enforcement deadlines.

  • Prepare for, take, and defend depositions, including developing outlines, organizing exhibits, preparing witnesses, and evaluating testimony.

  • Appear at hearings and assist with arbitrations, mediations, and trials.

  • Communicate with clients professionally, compassionately, and candidly about case developments, obligations, risks, and options.

  • Maintain a current understanding of assigned matters and proactively identify the next steps needed to move each case forward.

  • Collaborate with attorneys and professional staff while independently managing assigned work and deadlines.

  • Provide practical recommendations when identifying legal, factual, or strategic issues.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Admission to and good standing with the California Bar.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and writing skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, polished work.

  • Sound judgment and the ability to distinguish between identifying a problem and recommending a solution.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and protect deadlines.

  • The initiative to move work forward while recognizing when guidance or approval is needed.

  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small team.

  • Clear, respectful, and responsive communication skills.

  • Empathy for clients and a genuine interest in representing employees and individuals whose rights have been violated.

  • Openness to feedback and a demonstrated commitment to continued professional growth.

What Success Looks Like

A successful associate at Avloni Law:

  • Understands the broader strategy behind each assignment.

  • Identifies important issues before they become emergencies.

  • Brings analysis and recommendations—not simply questions.

  • Produces increasingly independent and strategic written work.

  • Connects discovery and deposition planning to the evidence needed for mediation, motion practice, and trial.

  • Keeps clients informed and treats them with candor, compassion, and dignity.

  • Ensures assigned matters consistently have a clear next step and continue moving forward.

Compensation
