Job summary

Yingling Aviation in Wichita, KS is seeking an experienced Piston Mechanic to join our boutique MRO team. You will work on propeller systems under FAA and manufacturer specifications, with a focus on safe, timely overhauls and repairs.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years as a piston mechanic, hold an A&P certificate, and are able to obtain an airport badge. We offer strong training, competitive pay, and a supportive, engineering-driven shop culture.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must meet Airport Authority badge requirements and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Propeller Repairman Certificate is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Piston mechanic.

Responsibilities

  • Assist team leaders and shop foreman with overhauls, repairs, replacements, etc. on aircraft propeller systems per FAA and manufacturer specs.
  • Familiarize with propeller publications (maintenance manuals, parts catalogs, directives, bulletins).
  • Own and maintain basic hand tools for assigned tasks.
  • Work closely with shop and office personnel to ensure smooth handover of customer property.
  • Become familiar with Propeller Shop test and maintenance gear and use as needed.
  • Perform all tasks assigned by management in a timely and safe manner.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist team leaders and shop foreman with overhauls, repairs, replacements, etc. on aircraft propeller systems in a safe and expeditious manner and within FAA, and or manufacturers specifications.
  • Become familiar with Piston/Turbo Prop technical publications (maintenance manuals, parts catalogs, airworthiness directives, service bulletins, etc.) concerning aircraft propellers maintained at this facility.
  • Own and maintain basic hand tools to perform assigned tasks.
  • Work and communicate closely with other shop and office personnel to assure smooth transition of all customer property.
  • Become familiar and proficient with all Propeller Shop test and maintenance gear.
  • Perform all tasks assigned by management in a timely and safe manner.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor towards all customers, (internal and external), showing a courteous, informative and sincere attitude.
  • Maintain a clean and neat work area. Assist with housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Provide backup to shipping and receiving personnel when they are moving aircraft propellers in and out of the work areas.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must meet the requirements of Airport Authority to be receive a badge and have no ramp restrictions and have a Current Valid Drivers License
  • Propeller Repairman Certificate is a plus
  • A&P Certification required 5.
  • 3+ years as Piston mechanic
Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Must be able to repeatedly lift 35 lbs. overhead. Occasional periods of walking, sitting, rotation, bending, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs, and frequently lifting up to 35 lbs.

Work Environment

Frequent exposure to general shop conditions. Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, lubricants, metals, dust, and solvents. Occasional exposure to seasonal weather
