Job summary

Centrus Energy is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in developing and upgrading advanced process environments, focusing on piping systems for liquids and gases, with field support and growth under mentorship. You will design and size components, create drawings, perform calculations (pressure-drop, CFD/FEA), and support procurement and safety reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• ASME code familiarization, piping-stress fundamentals, OSHA or safety coursework encouraged.
• 2+ years hands-on experience in piping/fluids in industrial settings.
• Experience sizing equipment for pumps, valves, heat exchangers, etc.
• Familiarity with pressure-drop calculations and pipe-stress concepts.
• Knowledge of ASME codes and welding procedures; basic safety expectations.
• Exposure to AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CFD/FEA tools and piping-stress software.

Responsibilities

• Design, modify, and layout facility piping systems; size components like pumps, valves, heaters, and pressure vessels.
• Create, update, and redline mechanical/piping drawings, plans, and specs per code and standards.
• Perform pressure-drop, flow, and basic thermal calculations; assist CFD/FEA analyses.
• Conduct pipe-stress and support-structure checks; document results for reviews and safety analyses.
• Prepare ROMs, equipment lists, and technical evaluations to support procurement.
• Provide field support: factory acceptance tests, inspections, and commissioning under senior guidance.
