Position Summary

The Piping Field Engineer Specialist provides field engineering, construction support, quality verification, and system turnover assistance for piping systems. This position is responsible for conducting detailed field walkdowns, verifying installed piping against engineering requirements, identifying and documenting discrepancies, developing punch lists, supporting test package preparation, and confirming systems are mechanically complete and ready for testing and turnover.

Field walkdowns and installation verification are essential functions of this role. The Piping Field Engineer Specialist works closely with Construction, Engineering, Quality, and Turnover teams to ensure piping systems are installed in accordance with approved design documents, project specifications, applicable codes, and established quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Field Walkdowns & Piping Installation Verification

• Conduct system and test package line walks to verify installed piping against:
• Isometric drawings
• P&IDs
• Plot plans
• Approved engineering documents
• Identify, document, and track installation discrepancies and punch-list items.
• Verify proper installation and configuration of piping components, including:
• Valve orientation, including Preferred Pressure End (PPE) and Vent End (VE)
• Valve accessibility and operability
• Valves, fittings, specialty components, and pipe supports
• Confirm piping routing, slope, elevations, tie-ins, and component locations comply with design requirements.
• Verify field installation is consistent with approved drawings and specifications.
• Support resolution and closeout of identified deficiencies.
• Perform routine field walkdowns as a primary component of piping engineering and turnover support activities.

Quality Verification & Inspection Support

• Support field inspections to verify compliance with project specifications, applicable standards, and industry codes.
• Verify:
• Flange alignment and integrity
• Bolt-up completeness and installation
• Material identification and traceability
• Pipe cleanliness requirements
• Proper installation of piping components
• Assist with identifying, documenting, and reporting nonconforming work and Nonconformance Reports (NCRs).
• Coordinate with Quality personnel to support inspection activities and deficiency resolution.

Test Package & System Turnover Support

• Assist with preparation, review, and verification of piping test packages.
• Confirm test boundaries and system limits are properly defined.
• Verify all required components are installed, inspected, and documented prior to testing.
• Review pressure test documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Track system readiness for:
• Hydrostatic testing
• Pneumatic testing
• Flushing
• Cleaning
• Mechanical completion
• System turnover
• Support turnover activities by ensuring required documentation and punch items are complete and accurately reflected in system status.
• Provide technical field support to construction teams during piping installation.
• Work closely with:
• Quality
• Turnover personnel
• Assist in identifying and resolving field installation issues, design discrepancies, and constructability concerns.
• Communicate field conditions and installation concerns to the appropriate engineering and construction personnel.
• Support practical, safe, and efficient resolution of field issues while maintaining design and quality requirements.

Documentation & Reporting

Prepare, maintain, and update:

• Field walkdown reports
• Punch lists
• System readiness and status reports
• Inspection and turnover documentation

Ensure all field engineering, inspection, testing, and turnover documentation is complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with project requirements.

Safety & Quality Compliance

• Participate in job briefings, toolbox talks, and project safety meetings.
• Follow all company and project safety procedures and requirements.
• Adhere to Company Quality Absolutes and applicable project quality standards.
• Promote safe execution of:
• Construction and installation activities
• Pressure testing
• Flushing and cleaning operations
• System turnover activities

Typical Daily Activities

• Conduct piping system and test package line walks.
• Identify, document, and update punch-list items.
• Verify valve orientation, tagging, accessibility, and installation details.
• Confirm piping routing, supports, slopes, and tie-ins against approved drawings.
• Track system progress from construction through testing and turnover.
• Support test package compilation, review, and verification.
• Coordinate with Construction, Engineering, Quality, and Turnover teams to resolve field issues.
• Update system readiness and documentation status.

Required Qualifications

• 5–12 years of piping and/or mechanical engineering-related field experience preferred.
• Experience with B31.3 Process Piping construction and installation; LNG or similar industrial projects preferred.
• Strong ability to interpret and work from:
• P&IDs
• Piping isometric drawings
• Plot plans
• Engineering and construction drawings
• Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and other applicable industry codes and standards.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct field walkdowns and identify piping installation discrepancies.
• Strong communication, organizational, documentation, and coordination skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Construction, Engineering, Quality, and Turnover teams.
• Proficiency with standard computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

The work requires the physical ability to perform field inspections and construction-site activities, including but not limited to:

• Extensive walking throughout an active construction site.
• Working in high-heat and high-humidity conditions.
• Climbing ladders and scaffolding.
• Working on elevated platforms.
• Walking and working on uneven surfaces.
• Entering and working in small or confined spaces where required.
