Piping & Mechanical Inspector
Position Summary

A leading energy infrastructure company is seeking an experienced Piping & Mechanical Inspector to support construction, maintenance, and quality assurance activities at a large-scale LNG export facility in Corpus Christi, Texas. This role is responsible for ensuring all piping and mechanical work is performed in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes and standards, approved procedures, and safety requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in LNG, petrochemical, refinery, or heavy industrial environments and possess a solid understanding of piping systems, mechanical equipment installation, welding, pressure testing, and commissioning support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform field inspections of piping and mechanical installation activities to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, and applicable industry codes.
  • Monitor contractor work for adherence to quality, safety, and project requirements.
  • Inspect piping fabrication, fit-up, welding, bolting, alignment, hydrotesting, pneumatic testing, flushing, and reinstatement activities.
  • Verify installation and alignment of mechanical equipment including pumps, compressors, valves, exchangers, and rotating equipment.
  • Review isometric drawings, P&IDs, vendor drawings, weld maps, and inspection test plans (ITPs).
  • Coordinate with construction, quality, engineering, and operations teams to resolve field issues and ensure timely completion of work.
  • Document inspection findings and maintain accurate daily reports, punch lists, and turnover documentation.
  • Witness and document pressure tests, leak tests, torque/tensioning activities, and equipment functional checks.
  • Ensure work complies with ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM, and applicable site standards.
  • Support commissioning and startup activities as required.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site audits to reinforce a strong safety culture.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or trade certification preferred.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in piping and mechanical inspection within LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, or industrial construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • ASME B31.3
    • API standards
    • Welding and NDE processes
    • Mechanical equipment installation practices
    • Pressure testing procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • P&IDs
    • Isometric drawings
    • General arrangement drawings
    • Mechanical and piping specifications
  • Experience working in brownfield and/or greenfield industrial facilities.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital inspection/reporting systems.
  • TWIC card required or ability to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS CWI certification preferred.
  • API certifications are a plus.
  • Prior LNG facility experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and startup activities.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and turnover processes.
Work Environment
  • Field-based position supporting an active industrial LNG facility.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and walk extensive distances throughout the facility.
  • May require overtime, weekend work, and occasional shift support based on project needs.
