Summary:

The Pipeline Integrity Technician will be trained and/or be able to locate, identify, and interpret pipeline flaws utilizing various in-ditch NDE inspection methods at various locations throughout Energy Transfer's operating area, as well as identified areas of this posted position, in response to findings identified by pipeline integrity inspections governed by state and federal (192/195) regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • NDE evaluation to determine compliance with standards including, but not limited to, API 5L, 1104, 1163, ASME, B31.4, B31.8, State Regulations (e.g., Texas Railroad Commission), and Federal regulations CFR DOT 192/195.
  • The successful candidate must be willing to be trained on various NDE techniques through the company's training program, including Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonics, Visual Testing, Creaform, AUT, Shearwave, PAUT, Eddyfi, and ToFD.
  • All NDE performed at Energy Transfer requires formal training, written and practical examinations to meet ASNT-TC-1a certification requirements.
  • The candidate must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations, read/interpret technical manuals, and understand regulatory requirements for NDE.
  • The industry is continuously advancing with new NDE techniques, requiring ongoing training and examinations.
  • Continued employment depends on successful completion of training and passing the required curriculum as outlined in the training documents and schedule for NDE.
Post-Training Duties:
  • Oversee third-party contractors during in-ditch inspections, pipeline integrity verification, repair digs, and direct assessments.
  • Maintain knowledge of company practices, construction standards, Integrity Management Plan, and SOPs.
  • Maintain Operator Qualifications and ASNT Certifications to evaluate pipeline flaws.
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to ensure project scope and schedule compliance.
  • Maintain records for audits and reports using Microsoft applications and company reporting systems.
  • Understand material manufacturing, anomaly classification, NDE technologies, and positive material identification.
  • Evaluate anomalies using manual and automated techniques to assess damage and determine failure or safe pressure, and repair methods.
  • Utilize various NDT techniques for ILI validation and flaw interpretation, including Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Radiographic, Ultrasonic, and Visual inspections with tools like Creaform Handy Scan, Automated Ultrasonics, PAUT, and ToFD.
  • Manage activities related to repairing pipeline defects, including in-service grinding, sleeves, and segment replacements.
  • Be adaptable to work in both office and field environments, often on short notice.
  • Travel up to 70%, including overnight stays, and work overtime as needed, maintaining a valid driver’s license and passing DOT drug and alcohol testing.
Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The minimum requirements include:

  • Experience in the Oil and Gas industry in a field role.
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Formal ASNT TC-1A training with documented hours in MT, PT, and UT.
Experience Levels:

Level C: 0–2 years of relevant experience or equivalent
Level B: 2–4 years of relevant experience or equivalent
Level A: 4+ years of relevant experience or equivalent

Working Conditions:

Employees may encounter:

  • Heat, cold, adverse weather.
  • Confined spaces.
  • Repetitive motions, climbing ladders up to 25 feet, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Callouts for emergencies, nights, weekends, holidays.
  • Industrial hazards, chemicals, loud machinery, PPE required.
  • Occasional overnight travel.
