Job summary

Sunoco LP is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator I to safely operate loaders, backhoes, skid steers, and excavators for pipeline construction and maintenance. The role requires 1–3 years of direct equipment experience and knowledge of trenching/shoring standards.

A High School Diploma or GED is required, and a CDL is preferred or must be obtained within 3–6 months. Applicants should be able to travel 70–80% of the time and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed; basic office and computer

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • CDL is preferred prior to hire or required within 3-6 months of employment.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of direct heavy equipment operating experience.
  • CDL experience operating tractor trailer/semi is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in pipeline, construction, or related industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards is required.
  • Available for after-hours calls, weekends, and holidays; willing to travel 70-80% of the time.
  • Basic office and computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy equipment on construction sites (e.g., skid steer, backhoe, excavator).
  • Ensure excavation safety measures including benching and shoring; locate utilities before excavation.
  • Perform loading, rigging, and transport of equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor maintenance.
  • Maintain DOT logs/ELDs as required for travel.
  • Remain compliant with Operator Qualifications (OQ) and safety policies.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Adapt to changing work environments and perform additional duties.
