Pipeline Controller
Overview
In this role you will oversee the safe, reliable flow of products through Sunoco's pipeline systems. You'll coordinate with field teams to optimize pump and delivery operations, monitor pressures and quality, and ensure timely data reporting. You are the first line of response in emergencies and help maintain cost-efficient, safe operations across remote facilities. You will work with cross-functional teams to implement changes and uphold product integrity and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Monitor pipeline pressures to design criteria and track liquid quality
- Coordinate changes with internal departments as scheduled
- Serve as primary contact in emergencies, notifying services and management
- Adjust pump schedules, monitor inventories, meter counts, line pressures and temperatures
- Direct delivery and product changes at remote locations using field equipment
- Initiate schedule changes to maintain delivery, safety, and cost efficiency
- Monitor tank inventories and manage shippers' products at attended/unattended facilities
- Troubleshoot communications, SCADA, valves and related equipment with field personnel
- Complete daily throughput reports and analyze operational issues to propose solutions
Key requirements
- Pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening per PHMSA regulations
- Live within an hour of control room
- Proficiency with PC applications (Excel, Word, Project) and simulation tools
- Strong multitasking, analytical and judgment abilities; highly detail-oriented
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Willingness to travel and work overtime; 12-hour shifts including weekends and holidays
- Ability to operate from an alternate Control Center location during emergencies
- Some experience with remote control, pipeline operations or related control center functions (preferred)
- Basic knowledge of measurement principles and liquids hydraulics (preferred)
- Familiarity with control valves, regulators, relief valves, and related safety equipment (preferred)
