Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company, LLC is seeking a skilled utility crew worker for year‑round, full‑time work across multiple sites in the United States. You will install and repair waterlines, sewers, and storm systems while reading cut/grade sheets and maintaining safety standards.

The role requires outdoor work in all seasons, strong teamwork, and the ability to communicate with operators and pedestrians. Training and supervision of others may be needed, with health and safety commitments

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience on a utility crew.
  • Working knowledge of shoring and excavation.
  • Ability to read cut/grade sheets.
  • Work in outdoor environments in all seasons.
  • Comfortable working alongside heavy equipment and able to communicate with operators, workers and pedestrians.
  • Must pass pre‑employment physical/drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Installation and repair of waterline, sanitary sewer and storm sewer.
  • Align and position pipes to prepare them for joining.
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints.
  • Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods and transit levels.
  • Check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers.
  • Assist with covering of pipes with earth or other materials.
  • Cut pipes to required lengths.
  • Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.
  • Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools.
  • Work in confined and enclosed spaces.
  • Willing to train others in pipe‑laying and provide supervision.
  • Ensure the company’s health and safety culture, policies and requirements are met.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with customers and co‑workers.

Job Details

Job Type: Full‑Time, Year‑Round

Location: Various job sites

Working Hours: Typical start time varies between 6:00AM and 7:00AM. Overtime, nights and weekends may be required.
