Qualifications

  • Previous experience with pipe laying.
  • Two years of experience installing large diameter pipes for water, sewer, and storm drain.
  • Experience reading and understanding blueprints and specifications to determine work procedure.
  • Ability to work on their feet for an entire day.
  • Ability to understand and perform assigned tasks.
  • Willingness to complete Garney-provided certifications, including Rigging and Signaling Certification, Confined Space Training Certification, and OSHA 10 hour.
  • Willingness to work overtime.
  • May be required to complete a post-offer physical and site-specific background check.
  • Must work in a drug-free workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare pipe-laying areas by directing trenching and grading.

  • Backfill around pipes using hand tools.
  • Set up and work with pipe lasers and transits.
  • Locate and mark the correct position of pipes and fittings in underground trenches.
  • Assemble and install metal, PVC, ductile, and concrete valves, fittings, and pipes.
  • Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and plastic solvent cement.
  • Test pipes for leakage, and measure and cut pipe.
