Pipefitter

Johnson Controls is looking for a Journeyman Pipefitter to support the fabrication, installation, testing, and maintenance of piping systems and components. In this role, you will work from blueprints and project specifications to build reliable systems that carry water, chemicals, and fuel, with a strong focus on safe, quality workmanship.

Role Overview

You will join a hands-on trades environment where precision, safety, and teamwork matter every day. This position involves shop-oriented fabrication work as well as field support, including fit-up, welding, testing, repairs, and coordination with other trades to keep projects moving efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabricate piping systems and components for water, chemical, fuel, and hydronic applications.
  • Build and tack piping and equipment supports, brackets, and guides.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to determine layout and installation requirements.
  • Measure, cut, thread, fit up, weld, and tack piping sections and welded joints using hand and power tools.
  • Install supports, valves, piping, and related components.
  • Repair plumbing systems and hydronic heating systems, including filter changes on hydronic heating systems, control air, and air-handling units.
  • Test systems for leaks using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Clean, maintain, and flush pipe units and fittings, and remove and replace worn components before reactivating systems.
  • Liaise and collaborate with other trades to complete work safely and on schedule.
  • Provide occasional guidance and training to others as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
How You Will Do It
  • Work safely and with accountability, following PPE requirements, job procedures, and site expectations at all times.
  • Stay close to the work by using blueprints and specifications carefully, solving layout challenges, and removing obstacles that affect installation or testing.
  • Communicate clearly with the Pipe Supervisor and other trades so work is coordinated, efficient, and ready for the next step.
  • Look for practical improvements, share ideas candidly, and keep your trade knowledge current through continuous learning and problem-solving.
  • Support the team with trust and respect, working collaboratively and considering different perspectives on the job.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience as a Journeyman Pipefitter.
  • Experience reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Ability to measure, cut, thread, fit up, weld, and install piping systems and components.
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Strong verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Time management skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to draw sketches to communicate details.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work with tools and to lift and manipulate objects up to 50 lbs for 50 feet.
  • Respect for diversity and a professional approach to working with others.
  • Proactive in keeping job knowledge current.
Nice to Have
  • Steamfitter - Pipefitter Red Seal Certificate.
  • First-aid certification.

Pay Range: Short Call {$44.05 + $100.00 Per Diem Per Day} hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
