  • Experience in layout, fit-up, fabrication and installation of pipe, flanges and valves.
  • Read and interpret trade drawings and/or blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements.
  • Experience in setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines.
  • Familiarity with fit-up, alignment tolerances and advanced blue print reading skills.

The Role

A pipefitter is responsible for fitting pipe consisting of various materials such as steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel and stainless along with the appropriate valves and fittings, utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawing, arrangements and blue prints. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Pipefitter may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.

Must Have

6 months of Pipefitting Experience, or NCCER Certification

Nice to Have

Completed high school or equivalentpipefitting technical program with NCCER certification.

1.5 or more years of marine, shipbuilding and construction experience

Experience in layout, fit-up, fabrication and installation of pipe, flanges and valves

Read and interpret trade drawings and/or blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements

Experience in setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines

Familiarity with fit-up, alignment tolerances and advanced blue print reading skills
