Job summary

General Dynamics Land Systems in Lima, OH seeks a journeyman HVAC/plumbing technician to install, repair and maintain refrigeration, air-conditioning and related systems. A 4-year state-approved apprenticeship or 8 years of documented trade experience is required; U.S.

citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance are essential. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, cutting and assembling piping, installing steam and hot-water systems, and complying with safety standards.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have completed an apprenticeship or have 8 years of documented experience in the trade.
• HVAC maintenance/repair experience; HVAC certification preferred.
• Must be a U.S. citizen; able to obtain security clearance.
• Must be able to read blueprints.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Must obtain Department of Army police unescorted access.

Responsibilities

• Perform all installation, repair and maintenance work of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, including cold rooms and tropical rooms to simulate extreme conditions.
• Install and maintain steam and hot-water heating systems, high-pressure steam lines, sprinklers and piping systems for air, oil, gas, paints, acids and solvents; including pumps and collectors.
• Cut threads, bend, file, burr, ream and install pipes, couplings, valves and fittings.
• Work with cast iron, brass, stainless steel and other metal piping; use pipefitters tools including taps, pipe threads, hacksaws, drills and torches.
• Layout, install and repair plumbing systems including toilets, showers and drinking fountains; read underwriters and municipal standards; locate and correct plumbing troubles.
• May be required to handle and manage hazardous waste from time to time.

Requirements:
