Job summary

GE Vernova in City of Schenectady, NY is seeking a skilled trades professional to install, maintain and repair mechanical utility piping systems, boilers, chillers and related equipment across buildings. The role involves reading system prints, working in confined spaces, ladders, lifts and following strict safety and building codes.

You will collaborate with contractors and other trades, manage parts and materials, and use CMMS and Building Management System tools to complete job orders

Qualifications

• AAS degree in Mechanical or Plant Utilities Technology.
• AOS degree in HVAC or Construction & Maintenance.
• Military Training Course in related field.
• Journeyman Steamfitter.

Responsibilities

• Installs & repairs pipes, fixtures, and valves for water, gas, steam, and air systems.
• Installs supports for pipes, equipment, and fixtures prior to installation.
• Assembles fittings and valves for installation.
• Modifies length of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing materials as needed.
• Uses saws and pipe cutters as necessary.
• Installs heating and air‑conditioning systems, including water heaters.
• Collaborates with contractors, construction workers, electricians, pipefitters, and steamfitters in installing and repairing plumbing systems.
• Performs inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn parts.
• Tests plumbing systems for leaks and other problems.

Job Description Summary

PRIMARY FUNCTION Under general supervision Layout, design, install, assemble, fabricate, maintain, test and repair pipes and fittings of mechanical utility piping systems, chillers that include hot water, chilled water, steam, compressed air, sewer, chemicals, fuel oil, gases and other related systems following local and state codes. Read and understand system prints and schematics. This role requires moving and working in confined spaces, up and down ladders and from ladders, scaffolding and aerial lift platforms.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Installs & repairs pipes, fixtures, and valves for water, gas, steam, and air systems.
• Installs supports for pipes, equipment, and fixtures prior to installation.
• Assembles fittings and valves for installation.
• Modifies length of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing materials as needed.
• Uses saws and pipe cutters as necessary.
• Installs heating and air‑conditioning systems, including water heaters.
• Collaborates with contractors, construction workers, electricians, pipefitters, and steamfitters in installing and repairing plumbing systems.
• Performs inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn parts.

• Analyzes problems and identifies appropriate tools and materials for repair.
• Follows health and safety standards and complies with building codes.
• Works at heights in scissor lifts and boom lifts.
• Operates fork trucks for material movement and unloading of deliveries.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Orders materials and parts for job execution.
• Uses current CMMS work order system to process and complete job assignments.
• Accesses Building Management System to review HVAC systems and make changes if needed.
• Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• AAS degree in Mechanical or Plant Utilities Technology.
• AOS degree in HVAC or Construction & Maintenance.
• Military Training Course in related field.
• Journeyman Steamfitter.

Desired Requirements

• 3 years’ work experience in a Manufacturing Facility (with references).
• 3 years proven experience in Commercial HVAC service and installation.
• Pipe Welding certifications.
• Licensed Plumber in NYS.
• 5+ Years in a manufacturing facility.
• Experience with underground piping.
• Backflow preventer certification.
• EPA Refrigerant certification.

Benefits

The hourly base pay range for this position is $34.68 to $43.89. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for contractually negotiated general wage increases and COLA increases.

The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
