Job summary

Comfort Systems USA (Southwest), Inc. is seeking a Field Operations Leader to promote safety, coordinate foremen and crews, and support project teams across our Southwest service area.

  • Manage manpower performance and pre-planning.
  • Oversee apprentice to journeyman ratios.
  • Coordinate field productivity with subcontractors.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings at various project phases.
  • Ensure foremen participate in BIM/VDC processes.
  • Review project information and ensure timely handover.
  • Lead or assist in recruitment and training of field personnel.
  • Collaborate with project managers to optimize labor and materials.
  • Drive accountability and continuous improvement across teams.

Essential Skills
  • Sound knowledge of your trade profession
  • General knowledge and/or experience in other mechanical or plumbing trades
  • Sound knowledge of OSHA requirements as they apply to construction
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse range of people when in the field, including but not limited to: fellow employees, other trades, general contractors’ various positions and Sub‑Tier Subcontractors of Comfort Systems USA SW, etc.
  • Ability to understand the field requirements of the industry

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Promote CSUSASW Safety Culture
  • Continually stress team approach
  • Help the foreman generate an accurate 3‑week look‑ahead and hold the team accountable to that 3‑week look‑ahead
  • Manage manpower performance, productivity, and pre‑planning
  • Manage the proper ratio of apprentices to journeyman on all projects
  • Manage all Comfort Systems USA SW subcontractor field productivity
  • Look to find new talent to build the best teams possible
  • Create professional field teams through comprehensive training
  • Attend head start, constructability, 25%, 50%, 75% and close‑out meetings for all team projects and bring constructive ideas to share with the project team
  • Assure trade‑specific field foremen are attending and participating in the aforementioned meetings
  • Work with trade supers to assure foreman selection is based on best fit for specific projects
  • Assure trade foremen are participating in BIM/VDC process from beginning to completion
  • Verify pertinent information for each project is turned over to field teams; if not, address with the project manager
  • Attend weekly staff meetings as much as possible, with a minimum of twice per week for each active project
  • Attend all trade‑specific foreman meetings and quarterly foreman meetings
  • Visit projects as often as possible while discussing productivity, job cost reports, safety practices, quality installation, manpower needs, and scheduling with foremen
  • Confirm foremen understand the entire CDR entry process; confirm supers have set up project teams prior to manning jobs; confirm all CDR time is checked for accuracy and verified in Coins for payroll entry
  • Collaborate with project managers, trade supers and manufacturing to confirm all prefab venues are exhausted before material delivery
  • Review long‑lead and prefabrication needs with project managers and trade supers to order items early and meet project schedule
  • Communicate unresolved project issues or potential delays, RFIs, change orders, design deficiencies, ASIs, submittal delays, etc., to project leaders; bring any items requiring GC involvement to their attention
  • Model and cultivate a culture of accountability in the entire field (5‑Star Accountability)
  • Address issues for resolution with GC; if no resolution can be reached, bring to Project Executive or Direct of Project Management
  • Act as liaison between General Contractor and CSSW to maintain and/or build daily relationships
  • Hold foremen accountable for attending monthly trade foreman meetings; work with AVP of Construction on productive all‑foreman meetings quarterly
  • Seek out training opportunities for trade foremen and lead personnel
  • Identify and report to AVP potential individuals for foreman positions
  • Seek new tools and systems to increase productivity
  • Provide feedback on annual reviews of all field employees on your team’s projects
  • Hold field leaders accountable for completing safety audits, 3‑week look‑ahead, and daily task plans
  • Confirm reports are sent to coordinators for entry into PM software
  • Be present for any safety violation meetings on your team’s projects
  • Perform or confirm write‑ups to hold field employees accountable for safety, attendance, and handbook violations
  • Follow up with employees using counseling; follow all HR procedures if termination is required
  • Work with trade supers to band all foremen and workers quarterly
  • Assist or perform in potential employee interviews for the PM team to ensure fit
  • Collaborate with project managers to review man‑hours and materials expensed, and formulate a plan for recovery (recognize 25% into project labor)
  • Stress importance of continual improvement through training and hiring practices
  • Meet with Field Superintendents once a week to discuss successes and issues needing resolution
