Job summary

Matrix Service Co is seeking a skilled pipefitter to lay out, install, maintain and repair piping systems across maintenance, tank, and construction projects. You will interpret drawings, plan procedures, select materials, and fabricate pipe as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
  • General knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Must pass Pipefitter Skills Test at or above 70% or NCCER certification.
  • Experience with high- or low-pressure piping systems and components.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings & P&ID's.
  • Safety training including Matrix Service and Process Safety Management.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain drug testing program status.
  • Pre-employment background check clearance.
  • TWIC card required.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate bending, threading, and cutoff equipment; fabricate pipe as needed.
  • Test, inspect, repair, or install piping for air, water, steam, oils, gases, acids, caustics.
  • Assemble and test piping components; prepare joints for welding or special joints.
  • Attach hangers and supports; manage materials and tools to/from job site.
  • Document work performed; identify and address safety hazards.
  • Complete Matrix Service safety, process safety, and site-specific training.
  • Pass required drug testing and background checks; TWIC card required.

Job description

Lays out, installs, maintains, and repairs all types of piping systems for maintenance, tank and new construction.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its Core Values.

  • Receives and understands instructions and prints regarding work assignment.
  • Interprets drawings and sketches. Plans detail of working procedure and selects materials in accordance with engineering standards.
  • Lays out work; calculates dimensions; makes sketches of piping systems when needed.
  • Sets up and operates bending, threading and cutoff equipment and uses hand tools or torch to shape, prepare and fabricate pipe for work to be done.
  • Tests, inspects, dismantles, repairs, replaces or installs any type of high- or low-pressure piping, tubing, fittings, fixtures and parts for the installation, maintenance and repair of pipelines for air, water, steam, oils, gases, acid, caustics, etc.
  • Assembles and tests a variety of piping components.
  • Sets up for pipe for welded or special type joints.
  • Fastens hangers and supports.
  • Handles or makes provision for the handling of materials, equipment and tools to and from job site in shop or field in connection with work.
  • Makes report of work performed.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervision.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
  • A general knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to pass the Pipefitter Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
  • Must have experience with the following tests, inspects, dismantles, repairs, replaces or installs any type of high- or low-pressure piping, tubing, fittings, fixtures and parts for the installation, maintenance and repair of pipelines for air, water, steam, oils, gases, acid, caustics, etc.
  • Must have experience interpreting engineering drawings & P&ID's.
  • Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the approved drug testing program.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • TWIC card will be required

Physical Requirements

  • Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
  • Will talk and hear to communicate.
  • Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls and tools.
  • May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
  • Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms. Will work at heights up to 300' utilizing proper fall protection.
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision.
  • Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
